Old Crank
Old Crank's JournalThey expect a good jump in electric car sales in Europe
It looks like the cost of EV's will drop in Europe for 2025 as more models in the under Euro 25K range hit the market because of the new pollution regs. Should be interesting. There are also concerns that reducing the fleet emmision requirements will help China advance on the EV front even more.
"Affordable new electric family cars particularly those that are EU-made have been tough to come by in Europe for the past few years. There were no launches of homegrown electric models for less than 25,000 (£20,740) across the EU during 2022 and 2023, according to the campaign group Transport & Environment.
Yet in the past few months that has changed, with a rush of new cars ranging from the Fiat Grande Panda to the Citroën ë-C3, the Hyundai Inster to the latest Dacia Spring and the Renault 5. Suddenly, buyers have options.
That is no coincidence. Stricter EU carbon emissions targets kick in on 1 January, meaning carmakers will have to sell more electric cars or face fines. New battle lines are being drawn: the industry wants the rules relaxed, while environmental campaigners are urging the EU to hold firm."

For DU post #5,000
I want to let all of you know that I like this group.
I want to wish each and all of you a great new year.
I wish that we will have the strength to keep pushing the needle towards
a more just and equitable society.
Keep up the good work.
Hasselblad v Fujifilm
The dangers of rabbit holes...
I ran into this quick comparison of a digital Hasselblad v a Fuji film tx4 (35mm equiv. not their medium format)
The results on my screen with my eyes is really close. Of course you are limited to what normal screens display. If you make a living using a much larger format the Blad would be for you. For work on the web the Fuji holds up very well indeed.
at least in his test.

In Munich the artillery barrage has started
It is around 7:30 PM.
We are keeping our powder dry until closer to midnight.
It is really amazing how many fireworks are lighted. And the size of some of the things you can get in the grocerystore.
They are from safe and sane(?) to pretty big things. We had bottle rockets that went higher than our 8 story building.
Of course the garbage gets largely left for the street cleaners and Hausmeisters.
Wir wunschen ihrer DU Familie einen guten Rutsch ins neus Jahr.
Hoarfrost in sun
Before the melt. Last of the series. Overcast, night, and in sun.
Streetlight hoarfrost
Another dog walk. Here are three from the trees on our street lit by the streer lights.
Hoarfrost morning
It was below freezing last night and into this morning. Fog was forecast. Fog wasn't too bad because a lot of the moisture froze out of the air. To my benefit. Here are afew from today's dog and store walk. Testing the close focus of my new lens.

Roasted Pumpkin risotto for dinner
Did roasted pumpkin risotto tonight with a salad to start.
Roasted a half pumpkin earlier.
I read and article on risotto and now have a list to try. I'm going to have to lay in a stock of rice...
Next on the list for Monday will be
Risotto all'Amaroe. This uses a strong red wine. This should be interesting
Risi e Bisi, with peas. Should be a spring dish using freshly hulled peas. I'll temp the gods and use frozen.
Risitto alla Milanese. With safron. seems pretty straight forward but gets a golden colour from the safron.
Has anyone tried these? If so any suggestions.
Any risotto suggestions? other than mushroom?
Our cooking or baking mistakes we can laugh at now.
I posted a picture of my plastic packed bread. I had hurriedly put it in the oven to bake but left the clingwrap cover for when it was rising on the loaf. Ooops. One of us suggested that we all might have some stories to tell or mistakes we have made that we can laugh at now.
At my last MIL house I mistook the salt container for a sugar container and added extra salt to some dinner rolls. Oops. Didn't rise as well as expected. They became my traditional (never baked again) salt lick rolls. The next time I visited the salt container had NaCl in black marker on the lid.

Memories while digging through the phone pictures.
January 2020. My wife had to go to CA for a couple of weeks. I took a short trip to Ferrara in Italy to stretch my bike legs.
